I&EC Division Fellow Awards
The I&EC Division is a multi-disciplinary Division of the American Chemical Society helping individuals convert science into commercially relevant products. Our members are made up of chemists and engineers across academics, national laboratories, and industry. The I&EC Fellowships recognize scientists and engineers who have made a significant contribution to the chemical industry.
The Division can confer awards in five categories annually. See below for more information about each award, including past winners. Please complete a nomination form as part of the application process.
I&EC Division Fellow
Criteria
A chemist or engineer is selected from an academic, industrial, or government laboratory based on innovative contributions to the areas in which they have published within applied chemistry and/or chemical engineering. Patents are given equal weight to papers in the open literature and nominations from industry are encouraged.
Prize
- Plaque naming the awardee a Fellow of the I&EC Division
- Registration to the Spring meeting at which the award will be presented
- Complimentary one-year membership in the Division
- $1000 travel award
The awardee will be announced on the Division’s website and the award presentation made at the Spring meeting at a symposium to be organized by someone chosen by the awardee.
Nominations
Nominators must be current members of the I&EC Division and should complete the nomination form for the candidate. Self nominations for I&EC Division members are encouraged. The complete application should include a primary letter of support which clearly outlines the candidate’s contributions, a secondary letter of support, the candidate’s resume or CV, and up to 5 impactful papers and/or patents that demonstrate the candidate’s contributions to the fields of applied industrial chemistry or chemical engineering.

Early Career Fellow
Criteria
The criteria are the same as those for Division Fellow but the award is for an individual up to 40 years old (as of the current calendar year) and thus in the earlier stage of their career.

- Plaque naming the awardee a Fellow of the I&EC Division
- Registration to the Spring meeting at which the award will be presented
- Complimentary one-year membership in the Division
- $1000 travel award
The awardee will be announced on the Division’s website and the award presentation made at the Spring meeting at a symposium to be organized by someone chosen by the awardee.

Nominators must be current members of the I&EC Division and should complete the nomination form for the candidate. Self nominations for I&EC Division members are encouraged. The complete application should include a primary letter of support which clearly outlines the candidate’s contributions, a secondary letter of support, the candidate’s resume or CV, the age of the nominee at the submission deadline, and up to 5 impactful papers and/or patents that demonstrate the candidate’s contributions to the fields of applied industrial chemistry or chemical engineering.

Professional Fellow
Criteria
A chemist or engineer from an academic, industrial, or government laboratory who has made significant, innovative contributions to the area of applied chemistry or engineering over the course of their career. This person must also have demonstrated professional service within the I&EC Division.

- Plaque naming the awardee a Fellow of the I&EC Division
- Registration to the Spring meeting at which the award will be presented
- Complimentary one-year membership in the Division
- $1000 travel award
The awardee will be announced on the Division’s website and the award presentation made at the Spring meeting at a symposium to be organized by someone chosen by the awardee.

Applied Chem. Tech. Fellow
Criteria
A chemist or engineer with an undergraduate degree as the terminal degree is selected from an academic, industrial, or government laboratory based on outstanding technical contributions.
Prize
- Plaque naming the awardee a Fellow of the I&EC Division
- Registration to the Spring meeting at which the award will be presented
- Complimentary one-year membership in the Division
- $1000 travel award
The awardee will be announced on the Division’s website and the award presentation made at the Spring meeting at a symposium to be organized by someone chosen by the awardee.
Nominations
Nominators must be current members of the I&EC Division and should complete the nomination form for the candidate. The complete application should include a primary letter of support which clearly outlines the candidate’s contributions, a secondary letter of support, the candidate’s resume or CV to include the number of oral and written presentations as well as any outside articles or patents, verification of the candidate’s terminal degree, and up to 5 impactful papers and/or patents that demonstrate the candidate’s contributions to the fields of applied industrial chemistry or chemical engineering.

International Fellow
Criteria
The criteria are the same as those for Division Fellow but the award is for an individual working outside the United States.
Prize
- Plaque naming the awardee an International Fellow of the I&EC Division
- Registration to the Spring meeting at which the award will be presented
- Complimentary one-year membership in the Division
- Travel award of up to $2500 for economy airfare to the ACS meeting and up to 4 nights at a hotel so that he or she may attend the meeting
The awardee is asked to identify a colleague residing in the United States who can organize a symposium in his or her honor at the Spring meeting and at which the award presentation will be made.
A one-session symposium is planned but the Division will consider a greater number of sessions at the request of the organizer.
